Ping Pong Tournament Smashes Expectations

The sharp clack-clack of plastic balls echoed across the gym Saturday as dozens of students crowded in for the annual Fall Ping Pong Showdown. What started as a casual dorm rivalry has now become one of the college’s most anticipated (and loudest) tournaments.

This year’s champion, sophomore engineering student Maya Chen, dominated the tables with a lightning-fast backhand that had opponents shaking their heads. “I play mostly in the laundry room between cycles,” Chen said, laughing as she hoisted the trophy.

Finalist Devin Brooks, a senior and last year’s champion, admitted defeat with a smile: “She’s unstoppable. I might retire before I embarrass myself again.”

The event drew over 200 spectators, many armed with homemade signs and vuvuzelas. The Student Recreation Club sold popcorn and energy drinks, raising $700 for intramural sports.

The highlight of the night wasn’t just the competition, but the camaraderie. “It’s the only time you’ll see professors, athletes, and art majors all screaming about ping pong,” said club president Jordan Fields. “It’s chaos, but it’s our chaos.”
