Campus skies will soon feature a new addition: a smaller flag pole standing proudly next to the main one on the quad. The installation, affectionately dubbed the “little brother” by students, is part of a campus beautification and accessibility project.
According to facilities management, the smaller pole will be used for events, student organization flags, and special awareness campaigns, allowing the main flag pole to remain dedicated to the national and school flags. The new pole stands at half the height of the original, making it perfect for banners and creative displays.
“We wanted something versatile,” said facilities manager Jordan Lee. “The little brother gives students a chance to express themselves during events while keeping the main flag pole for its traditional role.”
Students have already started planning how they will use the new pole. From club flags to seasonal decorations, the possibilities seem endless. “It’s kind of adorable,” said sophomore Harper Chen. “I can’t wait to see what people put up there first—maybe tiny pirate flags?”
The installation is set for this weekend, with a brief dedication ceremony planned for Friday afternoon. Administrators say the new addition reflects the university’s commitment to fostering student creativity while maintaining campus tradition.
Whether it becomes a canvas for student expression or just a fun companion to the main flag pole, the little brother is sure to become a beloved part of the quad.
